After graduating in History Honours from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, she did her M. A. in Japanese language & literature from the Department of East Asian Studies, University of Delhi. She did her Ph.D in Language and Culture from the Department of Language and Society, Graduate School of Language & Society, Osaka University in 2008.
In her Ph.D thesis, she took up the writer Shusaku Endo’s portrayal of India, and her research was on the Japanese perceptions of Indian religion & culture.
Her current research focuses on elucidating the differences in values arising from the social and cultural backgrounds of India and Japan through Japanese language & literature.
She has written papers on the Japanese perceptions of life & death, and social problems in Japan such as Hikikomori. She has also co-authored Hindi textbooks published by the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.
