Prof. Nabin Kumar Panda

Professor of Japanese Language and Literature

Nabin Kumar Panda is the Head of the department. Prof. Panda is a graduate of the Department of East Asian Studies (the then Department of Chinese and Japanese Studies) at the University of Delhi.

After finishing the M.A (Political Science) and M. Phil (Japanese Studies), he joined  the department as a Research Associate in the 1986. He has a second M.A. (Japanese Language Education) and Ph. D in ‘Policy Studies’ from the Graduate Institute of Policy Studies, Tokyo, Japan.

He has extensively written about Japanese language education in different journals and has published textbooks on Japanese language education for schoolchildren in collaboration with the CBSE and Japan Foundation.

He has presented papers in different institutions across the world and also has experience working as a visiting Associate Professor at the Kanazawa National University, Japan.

Projects (Major Grants / Collaborations)

  1. Grant from the Research Committee, University of Delhi to carry out a video program of Japanese language involving Japanese language learners of the department
  2. Grant from Japan Foundation to take three students to Japanese Prime Minister’s Office and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The field trip was conducted successfully. The findings were presented in the Monday seminar of the university and submitted to the University and to Japan Foundation in written form.
